Jeff, Amy, Ben, & Lauren -

Just want you to know that you have people all over the country praying for you! You are on all of our hearts and in all of our prayer chains.

Your story has really touched us. We can't imagine what you are going through, but it is such a blessing that you know the Lord, have an incredible family, and so many friends praying for you. Please stay strong and know that you are not alone in this.

We pray that God will comfort you and give you his strength.

Amy and Jeff,

I wasn’t able to go to the hospital with Josh to visit you on Friday. He came home amazed by your strength and the sense of humor that you are able to maintain in the midst of all of this. He asked his brother whose at a large church in Texas to put you on their prayer chain...so you can take comfort in knowing that some Texans in the Bible belt are praying for you :)

My mom suffers from chronic illness & spends most nights awake. She is unable to do much, but she is a woman of prayer. I’m sure throughout this process, sleep may evade you as well & the nights might be particularly difficult. I just wanted you to know that my mom is praying for you through the night....

Our thoughts and prayers are for you as well...

Amy, Jeff, Ben & Lauren:

When life throws an obstacle in our path we find a strength within ourselves to overcome and persevere. Your strength is in your love for each other, your family and friends, and your tremendous faith in God.

You are in our thoughts and prayers daily.

Hey Amy,

I think of you daily and pray that you are feeling stronger every day. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey, did you see? Martha did an issue on "Outdoor Living". Have Jeff go out and get you a copy! It came out on the 5th.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Dear Amy (and Family),

I have no experience with brain surgery, but I’ve had a fair amount of minor surgeries and I know the medicated fog of post-op life can be a hazy blur broken into segments of Pain and No Pain. If there is anything I can do (I know you’ve probably heard this a thousand times in the last few days), please, please let me know.

As many believers, I love the Psalms and find that reading through them often provides a sense of peace and comfort. I thought I’d send along a few that have done that for me:

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Ps 46:1)

"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me: You will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. The LORD will perfect (or “complete”) [it] for me; Your mercy, O LORD is forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands." (Psalm 138:7,8)

As a past graduate student of biblical history and literature, I can’t read these verses/passages without knowing that the human psalmist(s) composed these consoling words in the religious and political climate of monarchic Israel, but I know these words later provided comfort to suffering Judeans who found themselves in exile, and still later to the persecuted Church in Roman times. May these beautiful and timeless words reach through the centuries and bring comfort to you as well, a woman, wife, and mother who may need now to be reminded of God’s steady and constant presence during this time of great distress and pain.

I’ve often been lax in my prayer life (my grandmother was the “prayer warrior” of the family who kept a journal and scribbled a star next to each answered entry), but your situation has weighed heavily, and I confess, I’ve offered up more prayers for you and your family in the last week than I have in almost a lifetime (okay, an exaggeration, but still). I will continue to pray often for you and the family as you heal.

May you experience a profound sense of divine presence and grace during this ordeal.

B’berachot,
cara castro

That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without words
And never stops at all."

Jeff and Amy,

Thank you Amy for emailing me to let me know what's going on for you and your family. After reading your email about 100 times today I was finally able to check out the full story on the blogs. It's SO hard to take in and begin to imagine what these days have been like for you guys.

I will continue to follow your progress and journey and will be praying along with you every step. I know God will be faithful to walk this with you. I am encouraged already by your faith in the midst of struggle.

I will think of you often...especially when I throw in Lisa Loeb "Firecracker"...an oldie but a goodie!

Amy,
Just heard today about your news from Andre. You came to mind two days ago and I prayed for you, and now I know why! I'm praying for your recovery, as well as for Jeff and the kids.

We haven't caught up in a while, but Jon and I are moving next month to the Bay Area. Jon just accepted a position as an Associate Pastor at a church in Los Altos. We have two kids now, Mark (who is 3) and Rachel (who turned 1 in January).

We'll keep updated via this blog and will be praying for you.

Love,
Laura Sizelove

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to thank you all for your lovely e-mails and prayers. I feel so loved and supported right now - I am so very grateful! I am so thankful for e-mail too because I just love staying in contact with so many wonderful friends and family. Feel free to e-mail me directly, shwandadahonda@aol.com. I have a hard time sleeping in now, because one of my meds gets me majorly wired so it's fun to get up and e-mail people at all times of the day or night. Also, feel free to call, too. Don't worry about bothering me, talking on the phone is a great joy right now.

Love to you all,
amy

Hi Jeff and Amy,
We heard your news last weekend and have been praying for you all week. Katrina had lots of questions as to why we are praying for your head...I wish I had chicken mcnugget and fries analogies to make, but I'm not that creative. I have been so amazed to see how both of you are handling all of this...it has really been a blessing and a challenge to me. We are thankful for this blog to keep up on your news. Take care and know we are praying for you!

I heard the news from Jenny last week. Wow! You're still too young to be going through this. I thought we were invincible at this age. Well, actually I'm beginning to see the holes in our invincibility as the body begins to fall apart.

I'm praying for you and will check up from time to time to see the progress as God heals your body. It's encouraging to see your faith through this time.

Amy,

Your Mom usually doesn't have any trouble speaking her mind. However, last Sunday she had a wee bit of trouble getting words to come out of her mouth. She was standing in front of our church body body trying to express her thankfullness to God for your sucessful surgery and lack of complications. When the words (and tears) did come, they were from the bottom of her heart and soul. She loves you so very much. I do too.
